Holidays at the Stables

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Today, we’re going over some fun and interesting ways to celebrate the holidays with your horses and fellow equestrians at the stables.

Horse Stable Christmas Decorations

Bringing some festive cheer to your barn aisles is a great way to get everyone in the holiday mood! For many equestrians, decorating the stables for the holidays is something to look forward to all year long.

Encourage your boarders and riding students to add some handmade decorations to the aisles and stall doors. This is a great way to spread some festive cheer and allow everyone to have a bit of creative fun.

Of course, you will want to ensure that the decorations do not pose a fire hazard or infringe on walking space. If you wish to put a tree up, it’s best to stick with an artificial tree, as they are much safer.

It’s also important to ensure that all decorations are non-toxic and pose no risk to curious nibblers around the barn. Holly and mistletoe are both toxic to our equine friends; consider using faux decorations, instead!

Holiday Stable Party

‘Tis the season to relax and have fun with your fellow equestrians! Hosting a horse stable holiday party is a great way to bring everyone together.

Put together a secret Santa list, or perhaps do a “white elephant” or “Yankee Christmas” gift-giving game. This is a fun and exciting way to ensure that everyone gets a little something, and that all gifts are around the same price point.

Consider where you’d like to host your party; if you don’t have a lot of space in your rider’s lounge or tack room, consider using your indoor arena! If your climate is just too cold for a party at the stables, consider meeting up at a local restaurant, or even your home.

Set up some tables, a tree, festive lights, and decorations. This is another excellent opportunity to encourage your boarders and riders to make some handmade decorations. Think about setting up a raffle; the winner gets one month of board completely free, or something of the like!

Set Up A Professional Clinic

As a special treat to your boarders and riders, consider setting up a special professional clinic to be held on your property. Equine massage therapists, saddle fitters, and equine chiropractors often offer special holiday rates – this is a great way to bring everyone together and allows the horses to head into the new year feeling refreshed.

If you’re hosting a holiday party and running a raffle, consider offering a free session at the holiday clinic for the winner!
